Bevil Spence

Drummer

Bevil Spence has 15 years of experience as a drum circle facilitator, hand-drumming teacher, drum and instrument maker. He is the founder and chief facilitator of The Drumba Project, a self-funded community-based project which was established in order to share the many benefits or drumming and rhythmic activity and to explore the use of rhythm, drums and percussion as a tool in the therapeutic and education process. Drumming is particularly effective at reducing anger and tension and increasing a sense of wellbeing by building self-confidence, stimulating creativity, developing hand-eye coordination, reducing stress and enhancing mood. In order to encourage and support scientific investigation into the benefits of drums and rhythm, Bevil has presented several facilitator training programmes for educators and healthcare professionals. His company Drumba is involved in ‘Drums for Kids’, an initiative to bring the joy of music to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Drumba is also involved in corporate and school team building and teaching drum facilitation.
