Matthew has written on South African art, literature and history. He has a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of East Anglia. He lives in Cape Town with two dogs of nameless breed.

Together with Nick Dall he has written three books on South African history. Rogues’ Gallery traces flagrant and feckless corruption in South Africa all the way back to 1652. Spoilt Ballots looks at our long and crooked walk to democracy. And Legends tells the stories of a dozen remarkable men and women who changed South Africa for the better.
