Samantha Durrant

Violinist

Samantha Durrant attends the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where she is studying music under the tutelage of Prof Farida Bacharova. Past teachers include Prof Jack de Wet, Anouk Smit (Espi) and Vincenzo lo Castro.

Samantha has appeared as a soloist with UCTSO, CPO, JPO, KZNPO, Camerata Tinta Barocca and Musicanti orchestra. She has taken part in eisteddfodau and competitions around the country of which she has been a distinction bearer and prize winner at competitions such as UNISA Grade 8 Bursary Competition, the NEA awards, as well as the winner of the runner-up string prize at Artscape Youth Music Competition in 2014.

She has been involved in SANYOF for the past 5 years, where she has appeared as a concertmaster of the Bern youth orchestra tour to South Africa in 2011. She was also invited to participate in the Commonwealth Youth Orchestra in Glasgow and London in June 2014; and has begun an initiative, as of 2014, to raise funds for musical education through the SANYOF; thus awarded National colours in 2014.
