Kujira – Bonsai Trees

Date

8 - 17 June

Time

09:00 - 17:00

Venue

Marine Hotel

View these magnificent specimens of an ancient art form that was first introduced from China to Japan in the 6th to 7th century. This fine art is now recognised globally.

The exhibition will include a selection of some of the finest Bonsai trees from the region, all locally grown in the Overstrand. A diverse range of planting styles and species will be on display, with many species being indigenous to South Africa.

The Japanese word Bonsai literally means ‘plantings in tray’ although the modern meaning of the word goes a bit further: ‘miniature, artistic tree in a pot’. (Master Bonsai – Rudi Adam) Kujira or ‘whale’ in Japanese is the apt name for the Bonsai Club in the Overstrand. Some local bonsai experts will be in attendance to discuss how to join the bonsai club, get involved, fall in love with the little trees, or to just enjoy the exhibition.

There is also a Beginner’s Bonsai Workshop at the Eatery Restaurant on WED 12 June.
Booking essential.
